Roof of the future!
Hastings inventor Ronnie Lee has created a unique recycled plastic roof tile that provides greater insulation and improved soundproofing, with environmental benefits.
VonRon roof tiles are interlocking, making them simple and quick to fit. The recycled plastic is hardwearing, ensuring tiles don’t chip or damage easily, and can be supplied in a range of colours and styles. 90% of the tiles are recyclable at the end of their lifespan.
As it is made from plastic, the product is much lighter than conventional tiles, weighing over 90% less - for the building contractor this means many more tiles can be transported, using less fuel, with the additional benefit of much faster roof assembly.
Householders benefit from lower fuel bills and sound reduction, and avoid the potential harm of loose conventional concrete tiles falling off the roof.
“I came up with the idea about five years ago,” says Ronnie Lee, “but it took a while to get the courage to go and speak to someone about it. It was such a simple idea I thought someone else must already have come up with it!” Ronnie went to a patent agent and now has a UK patent for the product.
Ronnie worked with the Product Development Centre to produce 3D CAD drawings, renders and prototypes of the tile. He is now deciding whether to manufacture the product directly or offer manufacturing licences.
