Sea Space reveals wind power proposals

Sea Space, the East Sussex economic development company, is presenting proposals for a wind turbine to power its forthcoming eco-friendly business parks in Hastings.

Sea Space intends to start construction this winter of the first of its ‘Enviro21 Innovation Parks’ at Queensway South on the north-west outskirts of Hastings. A second Innovation Park nearby at Queensway North is hoped to follow soon afterwards.

The company is proposing a two mega-watt wind turbine on the 3.47 hectare Queensway South site to provide all the electricity for both business sites. Wind monitoring on the site since last December indicates that the turbine may well also generate a surplus which could be sold to the National Grid.

Sea Space is holding Information Days about its proposals at:
• the High Beech Hotel, Eisenhower Drive, Battle Road – on 9 and 10 September between 10am and 7pm
• the Innovation Centre, Highfield Drive, Churchfields, St Leonards - on
11 September between 3pm and 7pm.

People are welcome to drop in during these times to find out more and discuss the proposals with Sea Space and its technical advisors. As well as information about the proposed turbine, people will be able to see the results of various environmental studies.

People can also find out more and register their views by:
• visiting http://www.seaspace.org.uk/community/projects/enviro21
• writing to Wind Turbine Proposals, Sea Space, Queensbury House, Havelock Road, Hastings TN34 1BP
• contacting Peggy Garrett on peggygarrett@seeda.co.uk or 01424 723 141.

Sea Space would ideally like to hear people’s views by Tuesday 16 September, although there will be an opportunity to register opinions after this date.

The Enviro21 Innovation Parks are designed to attract companies from the rapidly-growing environmental technologies sector and others wishing to run a ‘green’ business. They are to be clustered around the A21 in Hastings and the proposed Link Road to Bexhill. They are a core element of the ten-year economic development programme for the area, complementing the creation of the Priory Quarter business district in Hastings town centre.

The Enviro21 Innovation Park at Queensway South aims to meet ambitious environmental targets, using the latest techniques and materials to maximise natural resources and renewable energy. It has been designed by architects RH Partnership and sustainability advisors Peter Brett Associates. The consultation is being managed by Stevens Associates.
