Projects - Bexhill Town Centre
Sea Space identified the need for a new high quality hotel plus small business and residential developments to attract visitors, companies and residents to Bexhill and boost the town centre economy. Based on this, we produced designs in 2004 for a contemporary seafront hotel plus offices and homes. After extensive consultation which revealed mixed community views, we decided not to pursue these particular designs.
Rother District Council, however, is now drawing up new proposals to revitalise the town. The Council has identified primary areas for improvement including:
- Landscaping of the promenade and refurbishment of the Colonnade and Marina Arcade
- Expansion of the town to the north with 1,100 new homes and 50,000m² of business space
- Commercial premises on the former Sidley Goods Yard
- A new high quality hotel in the town centre
- Relocation of Bexhill High School in 2009 to new premises to the north of the town, backed by £34M from the national Building Schools for the Future programme
- New leisure, training and business facilities plus housing on the current High School site.
These developments would be supported by the proposed Bexhill-Hastings Link Road - connecting with the intended north Bexhill expansion - and recommendations in the Seafront Strategy.
