Projects - Broadband

In the early days before broadband Internet links became common-place, the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) helped bring the technology to businesses in the area by providing £300,000 of grants for the satellite receivers needed at the time. The early take-up that resulted encouraged BT to bring full broadband services to Hastings earlier than planned.

Sea Space then opened the Broadband Centre in 2004 in Hastings’ Robertson Street to give free advice to local companies and entrepreneurs on using the internet. The Bexhill Broadband Centre opened in early 2005.

In 2006, the Broadband Centres evolved into the eBiz Centre, based in Robertson Street, which focuses on helping businesses find their way in the world of ecommerce. The Centre offers one-to-one advice as well as workshops and seminars. It also runs highly successful eBiz Clubs across Hastings and the Rother district, including updates on developments and networking events for business people.

Between them, the Broadband Centres and the eBiz Centre have helped over 1,000 local businesses and entrepreneurs make the best of the latest Internet technology.
