We have renovated the much-loved 1930s Marina Pavilion in St Leonards to become a quality, year-round seafront entertainment and conference venue. We have let it to Lightening Leisure Ltd who will run the venue as 'Azur at Marina Pavilion' when the necessary internal fit-out works are completed.
Lightening Leisure will run Azur as a landmark restaurant, wedding and conference venue, beach-front bistro café and state-of-the-art complementary health and beauty suite clinic using the latest technologies. There will be improved access to the lower promenade building by a lift.
Reasons For Development
By improving the Marina Pavilion, we have turned it into a high quality venue which will make a positive contribution to the seafront and bring greater vitality to the St Leonards area and nearby businesses, by day and by night.
The renovation works involved upgrading the flood defences on the existing building and creating a brasserie-style restaurant in a new road-level single-storey building which is screened with striking coloured glass panels, designed with input from local artists. All parts of the venue have stunning views across the sea toward Beachy Head.
The renovation works were partly funded by the EU.
Timings
- Planning application approved: September 2004
- Start of construction: October 2005
- Construction completion: winter 2007/08 followed by operator's fit-out works
- Building leased to Lightening Leisure: February 2008
- Opening to customers: on completion of fit-out works
