Projects - Millennium Community
The Millennium Communities programme is run by the Homes and Communities Agency, the national housing and regeneration agency. It brings together new ways of planning, designing and building homes to enable a more sustainable way of living.
The Millennium Communities programme is creating seven inspiring places to live across the country. At Hastings, the linked Station Plaza, Ore Valley and West Marina developments will create the only Millennium Community sites beside the sea.
The programme is managed locally by Hastings Borough Council and Sea Space.
Further Information
Initiated in 1997 with the launch of a design competition for Greenwich Millennium Village in London, the Millennium Community programme aims to influence and encourage the building industry to embrace innovation and higher environmental standards.
Aside from Hastings, the other new communities being created through the programme are: Allerton Bywater near Leeds; New Islington in East Manchester, South Lynn region of Kings Lynn, East Ketley in Telford, and Oakgrove in Milton Keynes. The programme aims to deliver over 9,000 homes by 2014.
