Projects - Ore Valley
Sea Space and English Partnerships are leading the transformation of the Ore Valley, the largest of the three development sites within the Hastings Millennium Community programme.
To help shape the plans, we have carried out extensive discussions with the community over the last three years, including three formal consultation exercises.
We are planning 650 new homes, improvements to the rail and road system, new community facilities and enhancement of the area's green spaces.
Timings
- Outline planning application approved for the whole scheme: May 2007
- A preferred housing developer has been selected.
- We anticipate completion of the entire Ore Valley scheme by 2012-13.
Further Information
The majority of the development will be on derelict brownfield land including the former Mount Pleasant Hospital site off Frederick Road, the former Stills Factory on Fellows Road, the Parker Road Industrial Estate and the old Broomgrove Power Station site.
The proposed new homes are to be two or three bedroom town houses and flats built to EcoHomes 'Excellent' standard - the Building Research Establishment's highest environmental rating for houses. Thirty per cent of the homes will be designated as 'affordable' and many will be available as part of a shared ownership scheme.
A new road will make Ore train station accessible by cars and buses for the first time. Shops, homes and a public transport interchange will bring new life to the station area.
Part of the Hastings & Rother New College will be created on Parker Road (as well as at Hastings Station Plaza), offering vocational courses for local people.
We have made sure that enhancement of the natural environment and protection of wildlife are at the heart of our redevelopment plans. We have set aside a fifth of the site as an ecology zone, as part of a wider series of protected spaces.
