Projects - Pelham Place
World-renowned architects Foster & Partners drew up initial proposals in 2003 for the future transformation of the Pelham Place site on Hastings seafront. The scheme is a striking contemporary development that would complement the existing Regency architecture, incorporating a civic space, hotel, offices, shops, homes, cafes and restaurants. As a bustling public area, this showcase development would be a powerful draw for locals, visitors, businesses, jobs and growth.
The Task Force partners have recently extended the scope of this project to include ways to renovate Pelham Crescent and Pelham Arcade and to make full use of the St Mary in the Castle former church.
Further Information
The scheme will need significant private investment and Sea Space is monitoring the local economic conditions - factors such as jobs, commercial rents and business growth - to decide when the time is right to start development. Sea Space and Hastings Borough Council are looking at ways to improve the Pelham site in the meantime.
This project is part-financed by the EU.
