Projects - Priory Quarter
Sea Space is working on the long-term transformation of Priory Quarter - the section of Hastings town centre bounded by Cornwallis Terrace to the north, Cambridge Gardens to the west, Middle Street to the east and Robertson Street to the south. The area includes the University Centre Hastings and the Creative Media Centre as well as Lacuna Place. The first new building in the Priory Quarter area is Lacuna Place, a new office development in Havelock Road. A new public space called Priory Square has been created on Priory Street, giving pedestrian access to Havelock Road and the offices. One Priory Square is a second office development which joins with Lacuna Place and was completed in June 2009.
Reasons For Development
We are working to turn the area into a bustling business and leisure district, creating jobs and making it a far better place to spend time - by day and by night.
Timings
- Approval was given to an outline planning application for these ideas in March 2007
- The developments will take place in phases over the coming years depending on funding and private sector investment
- Lacuna Place offices completed in September 2008
- One Priory Square completed in June 2009
- Priory Square completed in June 2009
Further Information
Proposal ideas include new high quality offices, improved access to the rail station, a multi-screen cinema, a 'land bridge' from the station down Priory Street to Cambridge Road, small public squares and additional premises for the University Centre Hastings.
These ideas were shaped by two rounds of consultation to hear the views and aspirations of Hastings' young people, councillors, council officers, community members, business people and interest groups.
