Projects - Transport

Transport is one the five core themes of the development plan, as we believe good links are vital for attracting businesses, tourists and students. We’re working hard to lobby for improvements.

The government has already allocated nearly £150M to upgrade the A21, with the Lamberhurst by-pass having opened in spring 2005. Funds are also committed to improve the Tonbridge-to-Pembury and Kippings Cross-to-Lamberhurst sections of the road.

We support the development of a Link Road between Bexhill and Hastings as crucial to improve access and open up housing and work opportunities in both towns, as well as to ease congestion on the Bexhill Road. Design and planning work is under way.

The towns' rail links are also important. Improvements to the train timetable between London and Hastings, and between Brighton and Ashford, have been made. New trains have been introduced to all routes. In addition, many rail stations are being upgraded, the most significant changes being the £9m new Hastings station which opened in October 2004 and proposed improvements to Ore Station.

Sea Space supported a successful Lottery funding bid from Connect2, a national project of 79 local schemes aimed at improving access. The Hastings – Bexhill Coastal Connection project will provide a new cycle and pedestrian link along the beach between Bexhill and Hastings.
